How to Balance Chaos and Control

How to Balance Chaos and Control

None of us are safe from the mid-year slump. A time when we can start to lose sight of the goals we set at the beginning of the year and our motivation to stay organised falters as long summer nights expand our social lives. A bit of chaos is good for keeping us on our toes, and allowing for life's twists and turns to lead us somewhere new, but when a mid-year slump starts to disrupt our lives, it’s time to harness that chaos and change things until we regain control.

It all starts with a mindset shift. Mid-year is an opportunity for us to look back on how far we’ve come, and look towards all that is to come in the future. Try writing down a list of the things you wanted to achieve this year and do a halfway point review; How far am I to reaching this goal? What have I done well so far? What else do I need to do before I reach this goal? Keep it simple: you want a clear indication of where you’re at in order to proceed.

Once you know where you currently stand with your goals, it's time to regain that control. Write out a list of your next steps, the things you’ll need to do in order to reach your goals. These can be done in small stages, helping them stay manageable and easier to keep track of. These two lists can now be looked at side by side and you’ll be able to see just how far you’ve come, and the guide of final steps to get you to your finish line.

A great tool to help you on this journey are our Chaos and Control notebooks. They feature a split layout, allowing for lists, doodles and brain dumps. Follow us on Instagram @jumbleandco.uk and let us know how you'll be using the Chaos and Control notebook.
